Not only has Sue secured the lease for this beautiful space, but she has also taken the reins from the original owner, carrying on the café’s rich legacy while infusing her own passion and vision into it. A Fresh Beginning for Sue Flynn and Her Family
Sue, who has called Dorset home for over a decade, previously ran several nurseries in the area. As her children grew older, Sue decided it was time to explore a new direction. When she stumbled upon the opportunity to take over The Courtyard, her youngest son’s enthusiasm sealed the deal. After visiting the café, he fell in love with the space, and his excitement encouraged Sue to take the plunge.
Now, Sue’s two oldest sons are part of the team, with her youngest son taking on the important role of the café’s official taste tester. With a vision to honor the building’s historic charm and infuse it with fresh energy, Sue aims to create a space that welcomes both long-time patrons and newcomers alike.
Innovative Changes to The Courtyard Experience
While The Courtyard maintains the warm, inviting atmosphere of its tearoom roots, Sue has made thoughtful changes to enhance the overall experience. Rather than offering a wide range of teas, she has curated a selection of specialty tea and cake pairings, which will change weekly. The first pairing, which celebrates the local area, features Dorset tea alongside Dorset apple cake—an undeniably delicious combination.
